This year’s event features Native American culture and heritage exemplified by Ojibwe tribal members from the Lac du Flambeau and Red Cliff Reservations. Long-time musician and historian, Frank Montano, will have a display and share information on the history and craft of Ojibwe flute-making and playing. Members of the Lac du Flambeau Cultural Connections Program will accompany some of their elementary school children in presenting a reader’s theater performance. Brian Jackson, Lac du Flambeau educator and Cultural Connections activist, will also share in the program’s mission of developing students’ self-awareness through teaching and incorporating traditional values and language. Also from Lac du Flambeau, artisan, musician and award-winning educator, Wayne Valliere, along with three of his apprentices will create an interactive display of many handmade tools, implements and instruments including a birch bark canoe and much more. Many aspects of history made available through a Native American lens. Also feature 5 hours of continuous ethnic music from polka to Ojibwe drums to Barbershop and Czech Singers. The event is sponsored by the Friends of Fred Smith, Inc, and funded in part by the Wisconsin Humanities Council and the National Endowment for the Humanities. Enjoy great food, homemade ice cream, games, and the remarkable artwork of Fred Smith in the beautiful Wisconsin Concrete Park. Admission is $5.00 per vehicle.
