The meaning of this sign and statue can be interpreted variously. Originally there was a clear sense of being at the end of the road; the driveway ended here, and the informal, grassy area for parking blended in with the site, less abruptly defined than the pavement today. Smith proclaimed that visitors had reached journey's end, the ideal sculpture garden - the artist's world.
