Whether you’re a lifelong art lover, a Northwoods traveler, or a family seeking a unique outdoor adventure, the Wisconsin Concrete Park offers an experience like no other. Nestled among the pines of Phillips, Fred Smith’s "Historical Panorama" features over 200 sculptures adorned with a vibrant mosaic of glass and stone, all open for you to explore at your own pace.

Know before you go

1. Look, but Don't Touch

While the sculptures may look sturdy, the glass shards and mirrored pieces are often loosely embedded or sharpened by age.

  • Safety First: Touching or climbing on the statues can lead to injury from sharp glass or rusted internal armatures.
  • Preservation: The oils from human hands can degrade the concrete over time, and pressure can cause the intricate glass mosaics to pop out and be lost forever.

2. Stay on the Established Trails

Fred designed his "Historical Panorama" to be viewed within the context of the Northwoods landscape.

  • Root Protection: The sculptures are surrounded by a delicate ecosystem. Walking off-path can compress the soil and damage the root systems of the pines that provide the park's iconic shade.
  • Vantage Points: We have maintained specific paths that offer the best lighting and angles for photography without putting the art at risk.

3. Photography Etiquette

We love seeing the park through your lens!

  • Personal Use: Snap away! We encourage you to share your photos on social media and tag #WisconsinConcretePark.
  • Professional Use: For commercial shoots, wedding photography, or drone use, please contact the Friends of Fred Smith for a permit. Drone pilots must be FAA-certified and avoid flying directly over the sculptures to prevent accidental damage.
