Woman and Angel

This is one of Smith's most sophisticated compositions. The Angel is elevated on a base. Bare feet appear from the bottom of its glass encrusted garment, symbolically connecting the figure to the earth. The arms reach skyward in a gesture of dignity and grace, implying union with a higher power. The Woman stands below, offering flowers at the feet of the Angel. Centered on the front rim of the base is a relief tablet of the "Tree of Life", a universal symbol of perpetual regeneration and the organic cycle of life.
