In this Bandstand tableau, Smith represented countless barn dances, tavern performances, and the presence of music as a major aspect of his life. He also wanted to provide something for everyone at his park, and at one point realized that Christmas was not represented. He created two-dimensional concrete replicas of a cardboard nativity scene, which he painted, loosely copying the originals. He installed these Nativity Plaques on and around the Bandstand.
