Farming with Horses
Site #10
Smith had great respect for the rigorous work that engaged the lives of the people who settled the region, and for work methods that were rapidly disappearing. To envision the daily activities of past times by viewing displays of tools and implements is an abstract challenge. Tools had profound significance for Smith, and he gave them meaning by displaying them with the people and animals that used them. Smith constructed most of his figures with gripped hands, and many held rakes, hoes, sticks, and other tools at one time.
