The front of the sculpture features a Native American in full headdress - a symbol of high ceremony, individual achievement, and personal radiance. A metamorphosis of this image appears on the reverse, where the headdress is transformed into the archetypal "Tree of Life" symbol. When Smith combined a Native American headdress with the "Tree of Life" he created an ingenious visual synthesis of the individual and the universal in a stunningly inventive composition.
